Environmental Awareness for Sama Kids

This program is run in the hometown of Imam. Its objective is to raise awareness about environmental concerns among the youngest of the Sama tribe by way of diving activities, educational material, fun games, and beach cleanups. Training is also given to improve the kids' safety when they play in the water.

Through some mermaid-related activities and material developed by the Eco Warrior Mermaid organization, fun games and plays are also organized with Sama girls in order to raise their awareness about environmental concerns and inform them about best practices.

For hundreds of years, the Sama tribe has lived at sea, and natural selection may have made them genetically stronger divers, as a recent study in the journal "Cell" reveals. Every year, the most promising divers among the children will receive proper freediving education, following the standards of the International Association for the Development of Apnea (AIDA), in order to give them a chance to use that genetic advantage and maybe become professional freedivers or competitors one day.

The average salary of a freediving instructor in the Philippines being much higher than the average income, even if they don't end up forcing the current world champions into retirement, their future prospects will be improved by it.
